Roseburg High School Band: RME Staff Bios 

 

Below is a brief biography of each staff member that works during band camp, and possibly the season. There will also be various volunteers that help throughout the season.

Branden Hansen – Band Director 

Mr. Hansen instructs all of the band classes at RHS. He earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees at Oregon State University where he studied percussion, music education, and instrumental conducting. Mr. Hansen is a committee member of the Oregon Music Educator's Association and is affiliated with the National Band Association and Kappa Kappa Psi Honorary Band Fraternity. Megan Hansen – Marching Technician

Megan Hansen has worked for the RME for the past four years. She was drum major at her high school (Beaverton High School, OR) for two years and the drum major for the Oregon State University Marching Band for three. Megan has a Master's Degree in Music Education and plays the saxophone. She currently teaches private lessons and substitutes.

Sage Gustafson– Woodwind Technician

Sage is joining the RME staff for her first year as a woodwind technician. She is currently pursuing her degree in Music at OSU, performs in multiple ensembles at Oregon State University, and is an exceptional clarinet player. We are excited to have her join the RME!

 

Whitney Gasner - Front Ensemble Instructor

Whitney Gasner has worked for the RME for the past three years. Before joining the RME staff, Whitney was a member of the band as a high school student. Whitney brings a wealth of musical and logistical experience to the group. She is currently a student at Umpqua Community College.

 

Jade Hails – Font Ensemble Assistant

Jade Hails is starting his first year with the RME as a Front Ensemble Assistant. Currently a Percussion Performance Major at Oregon State University, he performs in the school’s top Wind Ensemble as well as several other ensembles. A graduate of Thurston High School in Springfield, OR Jade is a fan of marching band and looks forward to getting paid to do what he loves!

 

Nathan Irby– Woodwind Technician

Nathan Irby will be starting his second year as the band director at Joseph Lane Middle School in Roseburg, OR. He got his degree in music education from the University of Oregon and is very excited to be a part of the Roseburg team. Nathan is a phenomenal saxophone player and currently plays with the Big Horn Jazz Band. This will be his 2nd year with the RME.

 

Lars gunderson – Brass Technician

Lars Gunderson is a graduate of Roseburg High School and is coming back for his  first  year as  a brass technician. He served  as  a  section  leader  during hissenior year and is very excited to be back helping the ensemble. Lars is also a section leader of the massive Oregon State University Marching Band. He has spent many years playing trombone in several OSU concert ensembles as well.

 

Brian Massey – Brass Technician

Brian Massey is joining us for his third year as the low brass technician. He is finishing his Bachelor’s in music education at Oregon State University this year and intends to teach high school band after his schooling is over. A tuba player, Brian performs with several ensembles at OSU including the OSU marching band. Brian has also taught at the Twin Rocks band camp for several years.

Matt Hill is has helped in the Roseburg Band program in many capacities and is  joining  the  RME  staff  this  year  as  a brass  technician. Matt  Hill  is  a gifted trumpet  and  horn  player  and  is  also  the  band  director  at  Oakland  High School, where he has led Oakland band to many festival awards and honors.

alexis contreras – Colorguard Instructor

Raychel Miller has worked for the RME for the past four years. Before joining the RME staff, Raychel was a member of the RME colorguard as a high school student. She is also frequently seen on stage in local plays and musicals. Her strong performance background makes Raychel a valuable asset for the RME.

Kayla Winston - Colorguard Instructor

Kayla Winston has worked for the RME for the past two years. Before joining the RME staff, Kayla was a member of the RME Colorguard as a high school student and served as section leader. She is also a gifted flautist. Her strong performance background makes Kayla a valuable asset for the RME.

Jimmy Queant – Marching technician

Jimmy has been on staff with the RME for several years and is a fantastic marcher full of enthusiasm! He is a gifted saxophonist as well. Jimmy is a graduate of RHS and served as the section leader of the Tenor Saxophones during his senior year. We are excited to have Jimmy on staff again this year!

 

Zak Stillwell – Drill Designer

Zak Stillwell has taught and written drill for schools in Arizona, California, and Oregon. He began his marching career in the Academy Drum and Bugle corps from Tempe, AZ before spending four seasons with the Blue Devils. An upcoming instructor and designer in the marching arts, Zak currently serves as the Visual Caption head for the Blue Devils B corp. He attended the University of Arizona where he studied music education.

 

Davis Weiss – Drumline Instructor

David Weiss is a recent graduate of Roseburg High School. He was on the drumline all four years and was section leader his Junior and Senior years. He is an exceptionally skilled marching percussionist and has received many awards for his percussion playing, including the MVP award at Alan Kowen’s national recognized summer camps.
